MARY ORJI

Mary Orji is a multi-instrumentalist creative shapeshifter from Endicott, NY, now based in Harlem, NYC. Her primary voice emerges through the tenor saxophone, poetry, and composition. Inspired by luminaries like Alice Coltrane and Grover Washington Jr., Mary crafts music that channels her love for a higher power, calling upon ancestral energies through a fusion of poetry, rhythm, improvisational freedom, and a deep resonance with the collective consciousness to bring healing and light to every listener.

As a creative director, Mary guides the artistic vision of every project, shaping aesthetics, performance concepts, and overall narrative flow to ensure an immersive experience. The extension of her vision comes alive in her ensemble, The Mary Orji Visionaries Collective, which she founded while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston. The Collective has achieved numerous milestones: they released the visual album CONCEPTION in 2022, staged its musical adaptation at the Berklee Performance Center, and performed at Boston’s premier B.A.M.S Festival alongside icons like Grandmaster Flash and Terri Lyne Carrington. Additionally, Mary has showcased her artistry on the legendary Apollo Theater stage—not once, but three times—cementing her reputation as a dynamic performer who bridges tradition and innovation.

Mary Orji holds a Professional Music degree from Berklee College of Music, with concentrations in performance, music business, and composition. Drawing on this comprehensive training, she excels as a creative director, wardrobe stylist, and arts manager—roles in which she elevates every project she undertakes. Within The Mary Orji Visionaries Collective, Mary is the driving force who empowers each member to realize their fullest potential. She curates performance opportunities, nurtures individual artistry, and ensures every musician in her circle has the platform and support to thrive.
